Request for Guidance – Removal of Oil‑Based Paint Particles from Vehicle Paintwork Dear Jotun Technical Support Team, I am writing to request your professional guidance regarding an issue involving oil‑based marine paint particles that have affected several private vehicles. During painting activities carried out by GOT Safe Yards AS at their facility in Kristiansand, airborne paint particles travelled approximately 255 meters from the painting location and resulted in heavy sedimentation on vehicles parked in our parking area at Andøya, Kristiansand. The affected vehicles are new (approximately two months old) and have suffered strong adhesion of paint particles to the automotive paint surfaces. Based on visual inspection and odor and SDS that they used Jotun Hardtop XP, the contamination appears to originate from an oil‑based ship coating system. GOT Safe Yards AS has suggested remediation using: -Asphalt removal solution, followed by -Foam washing Before any action is taken, we would like to ensure that the recommended cleaning method is technically correct, safe, and will not damage: -Automotive clear coat -Factory paint systems -Any existing paint protection or coating We therefore kindly ask for your advice on the following: 1. Is the use of asphalt remover and foaming an appropriate method for removing cured or semi‑cured oil‑based marine paint particles from automotive paint? 2. Are there specific Jotun‑recommended products or procedures for safe removal of such contamination? 3. Are there methods or chemicals that should be avoided, due to risk of damage to automotive paint or coatings? 4. Would you recommend mechanical methods (e.g. clay bar, polishing) in combination with or instead of chemical cleaning? 5. Are there any special precautions that should be taken given that the vehicles are new? Given the value and condition of the vehicles involved, it is important for us to follow a manufacturer‑approved and technically sound approach.
